A student team project designing a mixed orchard at Hazelland in the Netherlands, with a pick-your-own concept for visitors.
This was a team project carried out with five other students at Hazelland in the Netherlands. Together we worked on the design of a diverse, productive orchard farm.
My part was designing the mixed orchard system itself — selecting and arranging fruit varieties so that the harvest is spread across a longer stretch of the season rather than arriving all at once. The aim was a pick-your-own setup where visitors to the farm could come and harvest fruit over many weeks.
It was a collaborative, academic piece of work, and a good lesson in designing for both ecology and the people who'd actually use the place.
