As part of the CIRAD-led ASSET project, I spent six months in Vietnam conducting field research on the livelihoods and socio-economic dynamics of coffee–livestock farming households in the North-West of the country. The research focused on how agroecological farming systems interact with labor organization, income strategies, and household resilience.
Together with local researchers, we carried out qualitative and quantitative interviews with nearly 200 households, examining labor dynamics, economic indicators, and farm diversification strategies. The data were analysed and synthesised into an academic report shared with researchers and institutional stakeholders.
This experience strengthened my ability to work in multicultural research teams, collaborate with multiple stakeholders, and conduct field research in complex rural contexts. Most importantly, it reinforced the central role of the human dimension in farming systems, highlighting how livelihoods, values, and decision-making shape the success and limits of agroecological transitions.
